Discover nature & rural Cambodian life
Chambok is a community of 9 rural villages where visitors can experience village-life, and explore the area’s beautiful natural surroundings.
We’re located on the border of the Kirirom National Park in southwest Cambodia, an area of forest, waterfalls and rice fields – located 2 hours from Phnom Penh towards Sihanoukville. The community-based ecotourism project was established in 2002 to provide an additional income for the local people and help protect the surrounding forest.
There’s lots to see & do! Trek to our 40-meter high waterfall, have a swim, go for an ox-cart ride, rent a bicycle, or learn how to make traditional crafts. You can also sample Cambodian cuisine in our women-run restaurant, serving locally sourced and freshly prepared food. We can also arrange 2 or 3 day treks with local guides, camping out overnight in the forest.
Come spend the night with a local family in one of our homestays and immerse yourself in the rural lifestyle. The 761 families who live in Chambok are mostly farmers with smallholdings, growing rice and vegetables while also raising a few cows, chickens and pigs.
Since 2003, the Chambok community has protected 1,260 hectares of forestland from logging and hunting. The ecotourism project is managed by the villagers themselves, and as all revenues from ecotourism stay in the community, this alternative source of income helps villagers protect the forest and manage it in a sustainable way for future generations.
We look forward to welcoming you soon at Chambok !
