Chambok Background: The Chambok Community Protected Area was established in 2002, facilitated by the local authorities, the Kirirom National Parks Department, the Department for Community Research and Development, the Protected Area, the Ministry of Environment, and the support of Mlup Baitong, UNDP. This community is joined by 6 people: Krang Chek Village, Chambok Dangkum, Boeng Thmey Village, Chas Saem Village, and Trapaing Kanh Village in Chambok Commune, Phnom Sruoch District, Kampong Speu Province.
The Chambok Community Protected Area was officially recognized by the Ministry of Environment as declared by the Prakas No. 027, dated January 9, 2003, joining a total of 1,260 hectares of forest. Later, with the potential of setting up an ecotourism site, the community has asked for further expansion of the additional 131 hectares of land from the Ministry of Environment to manage and organize Eco-Tourism having signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the General Department of Nature Conservation and Protection of the Ministry of Environment in 2005. So far, there are 1,391 hectares of the total forest area of the community of Chambok.
